What does Sharon Cave know about Jennifer's boss?

Sharon Cave knows something is wrong the second she gets a call from her daughter Jennifer’s boss saying Jennifer didn’t show up for her first day at work. When no one can give her an answer as to where Jennifer was the night before, Sharon and her family set out on their own investigation.

How did you get into journalism and podcasts?

Haley Butler: I transferred into journalism my junior year. I had a long-distance boyfriend at the time, so when I would go to and from West Texas, I listened to podcasts. My family is into true crime, and I watched horror movies growing up, so it makes sense as to why I liked true crime.

What makes your podcast different from other true crime podcasts?

TT: I believe it set a standard for true crime by approaching something sensitively. We gave listeners in-depth storytelling that didn’t sensationalize or take advantage of the victim’s family. I think a lot of listeners wanted true crime without the cringe factor.

What inspired the podcast’s narrative?

TT: Quigley brought up [Jennifer Cave’s case] as something he had covered for the Statesman. Haley and I connected over it because Jennifer was 21 at the time, and we were also. A lot of older people reporting this case had questions about why these young people would do certain things. Haley and I would look at each other like, “That sounds exactly like what we did this weekend.”

Just curious about how often this has happened. When has a true crime podcast brought new witnesses out of the woodwork, or suspects to light, or completely helped solve a case (even just through word of mouth)?

What podcast opened your eyes to a case you thought you knew all about?

Recently I have been catching up on the True Crime Obsessed patreon episodes. I realize it’s not the most popular podcast on this sub, but I don’t mind it. I listened to their coverage of the OJ Simpson doc, and was floored by how much I didn’t know.

What are your Top 3 favorite podcasts? And why?

I like them because the narrators have good voices, generally, though not always, choose interesting cases and do not have mindless banter that takes away from the case.
