Did Washington lose the Apple Cup?
Washington lost the Apple Cup in spectacular fashion last night. It wasn't a close game. Heck, this game seamed to be over the moment Washington stepped on the field. Why was that? Apparently they thought this "new" coaching staff would run the same scheme that Mike Leach ran during his seven years as the head of the Washington State. They chose to run the same defensive scheme that had helped them dominate their cross-state rivals and it was a failure. The Cougars rolled up 454 yards of offense and quarterback Jayden de Laura set himself up for free drinks at the The Coug and Valhalla (once he turns 21 of course) for the rest of his life by going 27 of 32 for 245 yards while rushing for another 31. In addition to de Laura's outstanding performance, tailback Max Borghi rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns and the Cougar defense limited the Huskies to just 200 yards on the night, including just 63 in the first half. In his first start for the Huskies, Sam Huard looked, well, like a freshman. He showed some flashes to be sure, but he also showed he still has a long way to go by throwing four interceptions. The guys from Dawgman -- Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund -- broke down what they saw during Washington's State's dominating 40-13 win at Husky Stadium on Saturday night. They wondered why the coaches just refused to change their game plan as contest moved along. They also broke down the latest news on the coaching search and talked about where some of the top candidates could land as well as which ones could wind up being the next hire for Washington athletic director Jen Cohen.
